Cartier
3199 DM is what you had to pay for a Santos Galbée 187901 in 1991. If you expect that you visited a nice Cartier boutique or classy jewelry shop in the city, you are wrong. Metro is a supermarket for commercial customers, so you bought it out of display case like you buy expensive electronics today. Most of the customers paid cash or via check back in the days. On top of that, there was a note on the back of the guarantee card from the Metro stating that they are in a conflict with Cartier regarding the guarantee and in case they win, Cartier is responsible for the Guarantee and other way around. Therefore the papers are mostly not stamped and so this is the case here. Blanko papers but the Metro card. 3199 DM is a hell of money in 1991, but it was not that buying quartz means you buy a downgraded 2961, the 187901 was the technical leader and everyone wanted that curvy shiny case that is super flat and so nice. This example here remains unpolished, the bracelet is quite nice and it has a beautiful, authentic patina for 33 years of existence. And again: That lovely hang tag <3
